iPhone logic board damage — recovery under the microscope
Bent in a back pocket, cooked by a short, or wounded by a repair gone wrong — a damaged logic board is where phone shops stop and board-level labs start. Your board only has to run once for the data to come out.

What counts as board damage
- Bend and flex damage — phones that lived in back pockets or took a twisting fall. Flexing cracks the tiny solder balls under big chips, and symptoms creep in over months.
- Shorts and burnt components — a failed charging event, liquid bridging a rail, or one capacitor deciding today is the day. Often the phone just goes dark mid-use.
- Impact damage — a hard corner hit can crack components and lift pads in one small area of the board while the rest is perfect.
- Repair-inflicted damage — slipped tools, overheated rework, wrong screws in wrong holes. We see the aftermath weekly, and we’re careful to say: it’s usually fixable.
Why the data has to come off this board
Every modern iPhone encrypts its storage with keys buried in the processor sitting centimetres from the memory chip. That pairing is the reason a chip-off transfer — unsoldering the memory and reading it elsewhere — produces beautifully useless encrypted noise. It’s also the reason “we’ll swap your board” means “we’ll give you a working phone with none of your data”. The only honest path is repairing the original board until it can run and decrypt itself, with your passcode, at least once.
What board-level actually looks like
Board work is diagnosis-heavy by design. Schematics and board maps tell us what every component should measure; diode-mode readings tell us what they actually measure; thermal imaging shows us where a short is burning power. Then it’s microscope work — replacing a failed component, reflowing a cracked joint, rebuilding a lifted pad — with the board’s health monitored the whole way. The target is deliberately modest: not a phone that lasts five more years, a board that runs cleanly long enough for a complete, verified extraction. Anything beyond that is a bonus we’ll discuss honestly.
On the bench
Board recovery, step by step
Component-level work under magnification and ISO Class 5 rated clean-air equipment — measured, mapped and reversible wherever possible.
Map the damage
Visual inspection under the microscope, thermal imaging and diode-mode measurements against known-good boards locate every fault precisely.
Stabilise the board
Shorts are isolated and failed components replaced so the board can accept power safely — no guessing, no shotgun part-swapping.
Run & unlock
The board is brought up in a controlled state; your passcode unlocks the paired, encrypted storage on the only board that can decrypt it.
Extract & verify
Full extraction, checksums, and proof of your files before payment — plus a straight answer on whether this phone should ever carry your SIM again.
Honest odds
What moves the odds on a damaged board
Our overall recovery rate is 92% across every device type we see — but your odds are personal to your phone. Here is what genuinely moves them.
Helps your chances
- Damage is localised — one impact point, one shorted rail
- The board hasn’t been cooked by repeated charging attempts
- Previous repair work was tidy (or there was none)
- The processor and memory area escaped the physical damage
Hurts your chances
- Severe bends across the middle of the board
- Heavy corrosion sitting untreated for months
- Aggressive prior rework around the processor or memory
- Crushing damage directly over the storage area — rare, but the one true killer
Transparent from the start
What it costs
Diagnosis first, fixed quote second, and you approve everything before recovery work starts. No data, no recovery fee.
Standard assessment
Full diagnostic on your iPhone, a written report of what failed, and a fixed recovery quote. You decide from there — no obligation.
Critical priority
Your phone goes to the front of the queue with an engineer assigned same-day. For work deadlines, legal matters and can’t-wait situations.
Emergency 24/7
We start immediately and work continuously until it is done — nights, weekends and public holidays included.
Priority fees cover the expedited service; the recovery quote itself depends on what your phone needs and is fixed in writing before any work begins.
Straight answers
Board-level questions, answered straight
Can data be recovered from a damaged iPhone logic board?
Often, yes. The board doesn’t need to be restored to full health — it needs to run cleanly once. Component-level repair gets it there in most cases we see, and the free assessment tells you your odds before you commit to anything.
A repair shop says the board is dead. Second opinion worth it?
Almost always. “Dead” from a parts-swapping shop means “beyond what our tools reach” — screens and batteries, not microsoldering. A significant share of our board recoveries arrive exactly this way, with a death certificate from someone else.
Why can’t you move the memory chip into a working iPhone?
Because Apple pairs the storage encryption to the processor on the original board — a transplanted chip is unreadable by design. Anyone promising an easy chip-swap recovery on a modern iPhone deserves sharp questions.
My phone gets hot but won’t start. What is that?
Classic short-circuit behaviour — power is pouring into a failed component and turning into heat. Stop charging it; every session cooks the board a little more. Shorts are precisely locatable with thermal imaging and among our regular repairs.
Is board-level recovery expensive?
The diagnosis is free, and the recovery quote is fixed in writing before we start — it depends on the fault, and you approve it or you don’t. Priority options exist if time matters: Critical at $650 + GST ($715 inc. GST), or 24/7 emergency at $1,400.
The board only has to run once
